The Importance of Chosen Family

As part of Pride, Indy Koele, founder of red., was invited to speak at a panel hosted by The Book Club at The Hoxton Lloyd. The theme of the session was Chosen Family — exploring the importance of the communities we create beyond our inherited families.

Indy joined the conversation alongside fellow community leaders Jade Hu and Sierra Durgaram to share both personal experiences and professional insights from their work with red. The discussion touched on themes such as setting boundaries within communities, creating safe(r) spaces, navigating cishet environments as queer people, and reimagining what family can mean.

The session was intimate and emotional, with participants and audience members alike reflecting on the power of chosen family. Indy’s contribution highlighted how red. continues to build platforms and spaces for underrepresented voices, making community care not just an ideal, but a daily practice.

Thanks to Kriticos Mwansa for the invitation and hosting the evening.
